Kushfehmiyan Yeh Thein Ky Khareedaar Aa Geye
Aawaaz Dy Ka r Chhup Geyi Har Baar Zindgi
Hum Itny Sada Thy Ky Har Baar Aa Geye
یوسف نہ تھے مگر سرِبازار آگۓ
خوش فہمیاں یہ تھیں کہ خریدار آگۓ
آواز دے کر چھپ گٸ ہر بار ذندگی
ہم اتنے سادہ دل تھے کے ہر بار آگۓ
Translation:
"Yousuf wasn't there, yet he stood at the market square
The misinterpretations were such that buyers came forward
Life called out, yet hid every time
We were so naive that we came forward every time"
Interpretation:
This couplet carries deep philosophical and metaphorical meanings. "Yousuf" refers to Joseph, a figure from Islamic and biblical narratives known for his beauty and wisdom. However, in this context, "Yousuf" could symbolise perfection, enlightenment, or a higher state of being.
The "market square" represents the worldly affairs, the hustle and bustle of life, where people engage in various transactions and interactions. Despite not physically being present in this worldly marketplace, the essence or ideals represented by "Yousuf" are prevalent and influential.
"Khush fehmiyan" refers to misunderstandings or misconceptions. People perceive the presence of "Yousuf" (perfection, enlightenment, etc.) in their mundane lives, leading them to act or believe in certain ways.
"Life called out, yet hid every time" suggests that despite the challenges and trials of life, the true essence or purpose remains elusive or concealed. People may hear the call of higher ideals or enlightenment, but it often evades them or remains beyond their grasp.
